Living Well with a Disability
A Workshop to Help People Build the Skills
for a Healthy Lifestyle
The healthier we are, the more we're able to do the things we want in life.
This eight-week course is designed for people with disabilities
and chronic health conditions. It
uses goal setting and
problem solving as the framework for creating a healthy lifestyle.
How Living Well Works
The course is offered to consumers through community-based organizations. RTC/IL staff provide free facilitator training to staff of Centers for Independent Living or other organizations. The community organization then conducts the program
for its clients.
Living Well Background
The Living Well program is very effective. In research, over 1,000 individuals in 32 states completed the workshop, with these results:
- 37% decrease in limitation due to secondary conditions
- A significant decrease in depression levels.
- A 10% decline in costs for medical service

This program is funded by the Centers for Disease Control. It is offered to Kansans through a collaboration between the RTC/IL and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
